History
On July 19th, 2006 the Jacksonville Developer User Group (JAXDUG) Office Development Special Interest Group (SIG) was co-founded by John Holliday and Andrew Connell under the name of the JAXDUG Office Dev SIG, it was soon renamed to the Jacksonville Office Geeks, or JOG.

 

Purpose
The purpose of this special interest group is to bring the local SharePoint community together to share tips, tricks, ideas and best practices for developing solutions on the SharePoint platform.  With the coming release of SharePoint 2007, and the many new developments surrounding the Windows SharePoint Services v3 (WSS) & Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS), there is a lot to talk about. However, it won’t be limited to the next version of SharePoint; the SIG will also have a focus of the current version of SharePoint: WSS v2 & SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (SPS). In addition to informal discussion, the group will also feature speakers and experts from Microsoft, Microsoft Partners and the SharePoint developer community.

 

Website
At first JOG didn't have a website or home... it simply used the JAXDUG News & Events blogs as well as John Holliday's and Andrew Connell's blogs to get the news out.

 

At the same time JOG was taking hold, another noteable SharePoint developer was creating a Office Developer user group based in Tampa, FL. Through the cooperation of Ted Pattison (founder of the Tampa Office Geeks Association [TOGA]) and JOG co-founders John Holliday and Andrew Connell, a new Florida Office Developer user group/special interest group Web site was created: http://www.floridaofficegeeks.org/. This site was created using Windows SharePoint Services v3.

 

The vision was for all Office developer oriented user groups and special interest groups to maintain their own subsites under FloridaOfficeGeeks.org and have common information roll up to the root site. The domain JacksonvilleOfficeGeeks.org was created and setup to redirect to the JOG website within the FloridaOfficeGeeks.org Web site.
